So what is HipHop actually ? 
To the most of the individuals, it is just a simple music genre. Which is making its way to the top. Hard, Explicit and most importantly Expressive. But believe it or not, it is the key to believe and have faith in all the positivity. To alot people, Hip Hop is the way of life. Surely a culture. Because it has all the abilities to change the perceptions, philosophy and thought. In short, it can save a life. 
 
It has it's root in something revolutionary started in the late 80's in New York. From there it has been evolving in various forms, from different lands to lands. It is referred as Black Man's Music, due to it's origin from Afro-American community. Its subject has been the liberty of black people, irrespective to the color of their skin.

Many great names in history inspired the imag of HipHop, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King. Hip Hop legends has taken the same spirit in there lyrics. Few names include Tupac Amaru Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G, KRS-One, Kool G Rap, Big L, Nas, JayZ, Big Pun, Guru and Ice Cube. 
 
Previously, Hip-Hop was mainly for the blacks. But One of the most influential Hip-Hop pioneers, Eminem a.k.a Slim Shady has disproved this tradition. Being white, He had his way very hard through the journey of Hip-Hop, He is regarded as one of the Top rappers to ever step on the stage. Since then, there've been a list of white white rappers in the game, including, Machine Gun Kelly, Macklemore, YelaWolf and Asher Roth. Thus scenario proves that, music has no color and it is an effective way to remove racism from society. God Bless.

It's much more than that and can be used for giving away some really meaningful messages to the audiences. It's a lifestyle. It's being REAL.</div>

What I think about HipHop is, HipHop is a culture, a way for living life. It always inspires me and every other artists who are keeping it real. HipHop mainly came into action against the racists who used to discriminate black society. It spreads Brotherhood worldwide via Emceeing, Graffiti writing, Break Dancing, Scratching and Knowledge. But Rapping nowadays has just been a game of money, drugs n chicks, showing one's swag. We are denying real lyricism. This is not HipHop and mainly in India the mainstream rappers are just making raps on girls, cents, alcohols n cars. What is this? We need that true lyricism back. Shoutouts to all my hardworking brothers and sisters who are spreading the roots of HipHop. Be Inspired to be true. Inspire others to be true. That's what HipHop is according to me. :)</div>

Hip Hop is a culture, a movement, a lifestyle, an art form. I have been a part of this since 2006 and have been a fan before a performer. Among the various elements of the culture something which caught my eye was actually something which appealed to my ears, "emceeing". Rapping is a fantastic medium for you to express your true thought or emotion. The way the words are expressed can grab the attention of the listener, hypnotize him, make him think, hence I also consider rap as one the best mediums for passing around a social message.</div>

While writing  I personally do not have a specific intention before I write something, but I always make it a point to NOT do something fake. I am NOT a gun slaying gang banger and so my music will never be about it. A very basic fundamental, a very deeply rooted rudiment of this culture is being original and in that process also being you. You would be best in describing something you have done rather than fabricating something that you might do and will grab attention. No one else but you know your capabilities, and will be the most comfortable expressing it. I am highly impressed with a lot of kids who have come out of the slums and chose to rap in their regional languages and show there day to day life in it rather than showing some fictitious nonsense , specifically folks from the slums of Dharavi and other parts of Mumbai.</div>

Hip Hop is best experienced if it is witnessed without any adulteration ( read commercialization). Hip Hop is now fairly prevalent even in the mainstream, it had a shaky start when a few artist decided to make tracks about girls doing dope shope or suggesting them to consume 4 bottles of vodka a day but we have a artists such as "<a href="https://twitter.com/Its_Raftaar">Raftaar</a>" who have proven that we can fit 16 bars of something sensible in track and make it sound great.</div>

Freedom to express through words and actions. Freedom to say what you want to say. Freedom to carry yourself the way you want. Freedom to be your own self. 
 
Hip hop is a way to show what you got. Whether it’s through actions or words. Through colors or by being on the streets. 
 
Hip Hop is pain, joy, victory, defeat, aggression, happiness, humour, life and everything else that you can think of on similar lines. It’s the thing that starts from your present, takes you to your past and future at the same time. 
If we really want hip hop culture to grow then we need to come out together. Whom are we fighting with? There is no battle, no competition, no war. 
 
Just show what you got and the culture will keep growing.

Hip Hop according to me is a way of living or a lifestyle. It is a culture which is different from all other religions and cultures around the world. HipHop is all about expressing one's story, their emotions and things they want to share with the world and believe me that's the best part of Hip Hop, that now everybody can join the culture (If he or she is really serious about it). It gives a freedom of speech to people (Although not in our country) but ya people overseas are really using it. Freedom of speech was the reason behind the birth of Hip Hop culture, when black people raised their voices against all that inequality, fear and Racism and then slowly it getting more bigger and people started connecting with it. HipHop gives you a chance to be yourself and share your story with people in some interesting way to which people can relate and they could feel the same.

Now let's move to the other point which is about the present Indian Hip Hop scene and people's mentality, their views and thoughts on Hip Hop and Rap - Most of the people in our country don't know the difference between Hip Hop and Rap as they think both are same ( Credits to Yo Yo ! Isse Kehte hai Hip Hop). They don't know that Rap is just a part of the Hip Hop culture. There are total five elements of Hip Hop that everyone should know about Graffiti, Emcee, DJing, B-Boy and Knowledge. People just think that Hip Hop is all about that groovy music, Smoking,Showing off your money, girls and using abusive and vulgar words/language. But that's not the true picture of HipHop. People of our country are not aware of underground scene as they are more busy into the commercial Rap stuff which is promoted wisely after spending lots of money. Which make it hard for the Underground scene to come up with the true identity of Indian Hip Hop. But now I am happy that many underground rappers are doing really good not just for themselves but for the better future of Indian Hip Hop Culture. Rappers are really working hard, setting out to begin a new trend of Hip Hop and Rap in India. It's just started and getting better with Time. I am pretty sure that a time will come when world will talk about Indian Hip Hop Scene. At the end I just want to request people to support good Rap music in our country and support independent artists who are working for the better future of Indian Hip Hop Scene and personally I am doing lot of hard work to bring Desi Hip Hop forward so that  people can connect to it and enjoy it. </div>

To me HIP HOP is my passion, my love, my life. Being from a city, Ludhiana, where the real hip hop doesn't exist. People here are making craps not raps. HIP HOP, for me is a way through which i can tell the story of my life, who i am ? what are my dreams ?whats my reality ? my favorite quote is "Don't judge a book by its cover". Saras rapper is not that type of guy which people think he is. As i Belong to business class family, where everyone thinks that rapping is not a career but my thinking is quite different from them. Earning money is not everything in life. Long ago i started listening the living legend <a href="http://www.pesanashapyar.com/2015/04/patola-bohemia-the-punjabi-rapper-guru-randhawa-music-video.html">BOHEMIA</a>, He is the one who inspired me to do rap n tell my story to everyone. Usually some talented rappers do not get the chances to get so deep in the hip hop industry. I find myself very lucky that I'm working with <a href="http://www.desihiphop.com/2015/03/mundeer-by-saras-rapper-out-now-on-desi-hip-hop/">DesiHipHop</a> which was a dream one day. Now i feel like I'm doing something very good in life. I always do the things which make me happy and rapping is one of that. So my view towards my life is that its full of enthusiasm. My love, my excitement towards learning new things n then applying them in my life. I love the life I'm living. I'm happy that i have got a chance to express my feelings through hip hop.

This is the tenth time i have backspaced all the way to the beginning of the sentence and finally we have a sentence going but wow is this irrelevant. That is how difficult it is to start talking about a topic like "What is HipHop". I feel this way not because I lack knowledge on the topic, but because i feel too greatly about it and have too much to say. So maybe i will start off by saying what Hip Hop is NOT. Hip hop has absolutely nothing to do with how many chains you rock, how low your jeans is sagging or how many chicks you got on the side. It has nothing to do with the way you speak, the slang you use or the way you twist and turn your fingers tryna throw up gang signs. Most importantly, it has nothing to do with how many "yo's" you put in your sentence or add to the beginning of your name. If you know then you know. Hip hop in my eyes, is your chance to be yourself. Your chance to be original and spill whats in your heart in the most creative and truthful way. It is a medium for artists to paint a picture, to tell a story or shed light on a topic that they feel strongly about.

Hip Hop is life, I live Hip Hop everyday. HipHop allows me to express or in other words, is an outlet to my emotions. I treat my verses like a diary and feed it all my deepest secrets, weaknesses and strengths. Some verses I write for the listener, some I write for myself and when I do, Hip Hop becomes therapeutic. It heals me mentally, almost like I have a trustworthy friend I can reside in. Hip Hop lets me tell my story, helps me to inspire that One Kid With a Dream to continue dreaming and chase his passion regardless of what the society or his parents tell him. To me Hip Hop is the only religion in the world which allows us to follow our free-will. While there maybe arguments that Hip Hop is a culture and people are paving the right ways to create a code of conduct, I would object and say, sorry preachers and teachers of hip hop there are no commandments to be followed as such. I strongly do not advocate counter ethical values but my point is and should be clear that you should do whatever you want to, to lead a constructive, productive life with the elements of Hip Hop.

The four elements (Rap, Dj'ing, Break Dancing, Graffiti Painting) are the basis and Foundational pillars of Hip Hop which allow self expression in the most creative way ever. Hip Hop is a pursuit of happiness in which some may resort to it for fame and money, some for revolutionary messages, to some its just a hobby and this is directly proportionate to doing whatever you want to. There is nothing wrong in taking up Hip Hop for fame and money even if this means selling out, making cheesy rap lines that will sell because worst case scenario if this is your career, your bread and butter you might just have to sell out. This is one reason you see guys at the top with wacky/cheesy lines topping billboard charts rather than those who make sense lyrically and have revolutionary motives. At the end of the day its your pursuit just be true to yourself and ask yourself does this make me happy? Well, I started off with Bboying and moved on to rap with a slight drift to reggae/dancehall music. I have really enjoyed my journey following Hip-Hop for almost 10 years now, it has helped me learn quite a bit in the ocean of experiences in which I have lots more to learn and this will be never-ending, have met quite a lot of people with same synergistic enthusiasm for Hip Hop. I would conclude saying Hip Hop is a window that helps you channelize your ideas/expressions to the world so use it well.

Hip hop is not just a music genre. Its an culture a culture based on expressing your self. What you think, what you feel, what gets you mad, what is your view. There is no guide line to Hip Hop. People are like that is not hip hop this and that, Desi Hip Hop is only Bohemia and rest are shit Honey Singh is this and that. Well straight up hip hop is saying what you fell like. Money, Hoes, Guns or Matters at hand, Depression, Politics. Its all about keeping it real. When I was a kid Hip Hop got me throw tough times. Got me some confidence . Where I was good at something the way I wrote rhymes and all. 
It got me that yes I am Different and its good to different. As a Sikh growing was a bit tough cause people made fun of my hair and all. Hip Hop got to me and I my mind changed. Hip Hop is a mind thing, As I grew so did my thinking so did my style so did my lyrics. Hip Hop in India is fine its making its way. Even when Hip Hop started people din have such great flows or beats or even rhymes. It took time and it takes time. 
 
Keep Expressing your self don't give a f*ck you know. Thats HIP HOP

To me, Hip Hop is a way of life. It's the way you feel inside, and how you express those feelings through a track. It's a tool that many people have used in the past to take a stand and make a difference. "Be the change." That's what they say, and I believe that you cannot begin to change the world until you can bring a change to yourself. Through Hip Hop we can all bring a change to the world. It has always been that way. Whether it be Rapping, flash mobs performed by Hip Hop dancers or graffiti, they have all been used to touch lives and open eyes. 
Hip Hop has changed a lot over the years and has been commercialized, effecting the mind set of people. There is a huge misunderstanding among the people who think that wearing baggy clothes, long chains, smoking weed, acting like a gangster, talking about clubs, women and alcohol in a track makes one a real Hip Hop artist, but I'm afraid that's not Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop is an Art that can bring a revolution to this sad, mean, two faced, corrupted world. Mainstream does not favor the underground artists cause people don't want to listen to reality because they find it boring. Whenever I'm going through a mood swing, I get away from the crowd and write on what I feel. I've been writing for 6 years and I always try to write something that could bring change. I talk about my life and about the hurdles that life's given me. My aim is to make tracks based on reality and touch the lives of the people, so they can understand that they aren't alone and, also, relate to me so I can help them fight and rise above their own hurdles that they face. If I can inspire a handful of people then I'm happy with my work. It isn't easy to make it big but again nothing comes easy in life. 
Many artists hire expensive rides and dress up rich just to show how cool they look. But if you aren't keeping it real then you aren't Hip Hop. Like I always say to young rappers who come to me for advice, "Don't fake it to make it." Be yourself and success will come through hard work, patience and time. Hip Hop culture is growing, but I've seen how the other branches of Hip Hop hate on each other. Unity is strength and we all have to understand that only by coming together can this culture survive. I am me, and that is why I am Hip-Hop. Shout out to all the Rappers, DJs, Dancers, MC's , and Graffiti artists doing their thing and keeping it real. Hip-Hop isn't dead, it's just hidden...hidden underground and on the verge of rising. Never give up and keep chasing your dreams cause you can make a difference.

An extraordinary culture, the struggle, an enthusiasm that pumps to bring out a revolution is HipHop. 
Listeners love it for chains, swag, dope, girls,fame, Porsche rides, money, expressing feelings, turning mass crowd crazy and the freedom of speech. According to me, Indians are loving hiphop as its new concept for them. In addition, the co-rappers are pushing hard to maintain the connectivity, between them and the audience. I salute to all the Indian rappers and followers, who are pushing the movement to a new height. 
Myself Siz the hindi rapper from India, started rapping 4yrs back after being influenced by west coast rappers. When I found the rap culture is forming its root in India, I started writing by hearing the free peppy sample beats available on the Internet. Later, when my friends started encouraging me, it boosted my inner soul. My first step on the stage made me believe that “I can do it”.Since then I never looked back, just kept on pacing hard 
“Vo kehtey hai na -123 meri fauj tayaar, ladkey diler nikley karney ko shikaar, aar ya paar, aaj hoga hisaab! Rokney pe n ahi hai rukhna, likha hai apni kismet mei bhi – Kamyaabi ka Taaz” 
I started doing for the bass that kills every vibe, I do it as it makes me feel young. I will be doing it till my last breath. It doesn’t matter the record label publish or not, the dumb cheques come or not. Personally, I am doing to bring the real swagger to India. 
HipHop is a religion and I am proud to say – I am counted amongst the believers of the religion.

But in the real manner hip hop is a life in which mcing, DJing, scratching, break dancing, beat boxing & graffiti writing are there so this is hip hop and about RAP (Rhythm and Poetry) For me it's an art, where you express yourself whether it will be good or bad, whatever be, it is but just the point is express yourself or express your feelings like love, gangsta and so on but these days what is happening here people talks about guns, alcohols, drugs etc. but in their whole life they never see a real gun and not even they got a drop of daaru. What is Hip-Hop? Hip-Hop is a culture. Hip-Hop is an individual's reflection either on the society or on the whole world. The time during the 80s and the 90s was undoubtedly the golden era of Hip Hop, I mean sure at that time rappers used to rap about guns, drugs, black oppression and stuff but that's what actually used to happen during that time in their lives, it's like they used to make songs to be passed on as tales to tell from generation to generation. Commercialism has always been a major phase of Hip Hop. Now, we consider Jay-Z as one of them greats but today even he raps about how many women he has slept with, how much money he has or what kinda cars he drive and that's just because that is what the people wanna vibe to nowadays. I'd like to rectify what I said, Hip-Hop is not just an individual's reflection on either the society or the whole world but also the whole world's or the society's reflection on an individual. Hip-Hop is an art, Hip-Hop is the freedom of speech and action, Hip-Hop is a state of mind, Hip-Hop is a culture, Hip-Hop is a lifestyle.

Hip-Hop is a lifestyle.It is a culture, it cannot be limited upto a certain form of performing arts. It is something you live. You dress like that,you talk like that,you think like that and even see the world from an entirely different perspective. Once you start living that lifestyle, you are hip-hop. 
 
As an emcee, it's all about being true to the world you live in and sharing your experiences, whether good or bad, whatever you see or experience, through your lyrics. Posers who talk about something but don't live it, don't deserve to say that hip-hop is their lifestyle. Hip-Hop is about connecting to the audience via your form of art and making them have a good time and letting them relate to your music & lyrics but by being true to your roots at the same time as well. Whether it be as an emcee, a DJ/Producer, a b-boy/girl or even a graffiti artist.

I'm a hip-hop fanatic, i ain't dissing other genres but for us hip hop is more than just a genre of music, once you get into this, your whole perspective about life will change, hip hop turns negative things into positive. Honestly, nothing is as good as hip hop, i love being a part of this culture. you know addiction of hip hop is more than drugs, it makes you higher. 
as a rapper i express my emotions through rap. too many people are still unaware as to what rap really is, rap is a art of storytelling, expressing ideas and thoughts, if you want to feel the real vibes of hip hop then listen to an indie artist, we share our joy, pain, struggle, dreams through our music and that's what we're all about.

Hip hop to me is a culture that can't be duplicated hip hop is apart of people you have to have it in you. You can't just want to be apart of hip hop it is one of the few genre's i feel is misread the most out of all. If you want to be in hip hop you need to have a certain hustle Nd grind to be here. There's alot that goes on in hip hop some good andd some bad you just have to take chances and really keep pushing to see where hip hop takes you. I relate to hip hop in a lot of ways.

Hip Hop is a direct representation of the life you live. It's all about keeping it a 100 and not faking anything. Being an Artist myself, I think it's really necessary for each one of us to be able to connect to the listener in some way or the other. That's the whole motive of Hip Hop. I'm not against catchy/commercial songs and I do feel there's a need to make songs with catchy hooks as well, but going to a club and scoring for the night is not HIP HOP. And that goes for doing drugs as well! A lot of young rappers are influenced by the lifestyle that is portrayed in certain videos and that just misleads the whole culture! Do it if you're really about that life, no problem, but don't do it just because you wanna be cool and want the attention. THAT'S NOT HIP HOP! To sum it up, HIP HOP IS YOU! Rap about it, that's it! Being witty is always a bonus, but you'd do the culture a great favour if you just tell your story, because you never know how many listeners you're connecting to as the culture, especially in India is still in its infancy and we, as artists and mature listeners can do a lot for it to grow! Just talk about yourself as a person, that's good for a start and the rest will follow! Cheers!

If something is bothering me or if i want to talk about something going with my life or something i see happening around I Just pick up a mic and spit a verse or two about it and that's the beauty of this art form!
